Originally by: CCP Wrangler It seems something happened to Tranquility and myeve just before the daily downtime. We will look into it, but for now we should be in the regular downtime.
I'll tell you EXACTLY what happened: Your server monkeys decided to start the downtime early, because noone ever told them EVE has paying customers.

Originally by: Zanpt By sliding into the downtime you have left a ton of pilots, ships, drones, wrecks and ore stranded in space, many of the drones no doubt in dangerous situations. Prepare for a flood of petitions.
I have to go to sleep. I'm probably not the only one in this situation. If I do, my drones and ore will be gone. The wreck loot and salvage will be lost anyway, since wrecks seem to disappear over dt.
This is poorly handled.
Do you think running something like EVE is simple? Things go wrong, like..your personal computer x 100000000. Give the guys a break, in the meantime we'll all shed a tear for your irreplaceable drones and ore.
Wow, you think the server going down 15 minutes before DT is an ACCIDENT? That it ran smooth for 22h45m and then ALL OF A SUDDEN the software fell over?
Especially when we all know the CCP server monkeys have a long and proud history of messing with the servers when they shouldn't?

Originally by: CCP Wrangler Right now we're looking into what happened, but it wasn't some guy who shut everything down early to get a coffee break...
If you don't know what happened, exactly how do you know it wasn't?

Because we wouldn't do something like that, and if anyone actually did, that person would be fired.
You mean YOU wouldn't do that, and if someone actually DID they would only get fired if they got caught.
After all, with EVE the 'oops, server suddenly went boo-boo' is a perfectly reasonable and understandable excuse, no?

maybe because such things does not grant people an extra 15 minutes beer break, but makes them have to work over their normal beer-and-bree break
No, it makes SOMEONE have to work over lunch, but not NECESSARILY the guy who did it.
For all you know, the guy just wanted to end a 12 hour shift early so he could go home and sleep.

Originally by: CCP Wrangler Well, here it goes, the databased failed over at 10.55, it seems like a replication task began and the database stopped working as it should.
Sooooo, if I'm reading this right, completely out of the blue a task began that made the server go boom? Because usually such tasks are scheduled to start at precise times, OR someone is tasked to start them at precise times. Or does the database replicate itself randomly?

Originally by: Tecro Nashota What makes you think that this replication task has anything to do with downtime ? This is standard server behavior, happens all the time, they are semi self maintaining these days you know Try ctrl-alt-del and look at your cpu and processes, your pc does all kinds of things without you telling it to do anything.
Ehm, yes indeedy my PC does all kinds of weird things without me telling it to do it, but it doesn't crash and burn on a regular basis either, so I really fail to see the relevance of the comparison.

Surely after so much time you know better than saying stuff like that Wrangler?

1) SMS to your cell phone from CCP: Your skill in Whatever 4 will end in 5 minutes. Do you want to change to another skill when it finishes? Cost 50 cent.

Aha! It's your fault! You're being punished for it and the rest of us has to suffer as well!
How about addressing some questions people posted here? I'm all up for entertainment aspects of forum postings, but an informative aspect has its benefits too.
And the posts I made saying what happened, and then explaining the startup issues and telling everyone it's starting up etc isn't doing just that?
Only it's not really starting up... It's just SAYING it's starting up, it's not actually for real starting up.
